Enjoy the unique opportunity to witness an exciting astronomical event on one of the most isolated islands in the world. On January 20-21, 2018, Easter Island will experience a total lunar eclipse. At 10:33PM, the moon will begin to pass into the earth's umbra, where the earth's shadow will be visible on the moon before it will begin to turn a deep brown-red as the eclipse reaches totality at 11:41PM. The maximum eclipse will be at 12:12AM, with the total eclipse ending at 12:43AM.
Green Island Tours and Rapa Nui Stargazing is offering the opportunity to witness this unique event through a high-powered telescope, where the moving shadow of the earth upon the moon will be more noticeable, and the moon's changing colour more vivid and visible.
Green Island Tours and Rapa Nui Stargazing will take you to an observation site with excellent opportunities for photography, and is able to assist those with cameras on how to find the best settings for capturing images of the eclipse. As is the case with all astronomical events, this experience will be entirely weather dependent.
Pick up will be from your lodgings from between 9:45PM and 10:15PM, with drop off at about 1:15AM.
